Q&A About Elevator Safety
Date : 2020-10-30     Click : 1165

1. Is there oxygen deficiency when trapped in the elevator?

NO!

There are ventilation holes in the car, and the effective area of the ventilation holes on the upper and lower parts of the car should not be less than 1% of the effective area of the car. The car is not a completely enclosed space, outside air can come in.

2. Is the elevator suddenly falling because the wire rope broke?

NO!

The elevator car is pulled by steel wire ropes. The greater the load capacity, the more steel wire ropes. For elevators in general residential buildings, there are at least 3 steel wire ropes. Each steel wire rope has about 10 small steel strands, and each steel strand has 10 steel wires. In principle, all wire ropes need to be replaced as long as one strand is broken.

Actually a steel wire rope can bear all the gravity of the elevator car. Moreover, the probability of all the wire ropes breaking is very small.

3. Is it useful to press all the floor buttons when the elevator is suddenly falling?

NO!

There are rumors that when the elevator is down, press all the floor buttons and the elevator will stop at a floor that has no fault. The car has safety gears, speed limiters and buffers. If the elevator continues to run at speed, the safety gear will jam the guide rail and force the elevator to stop. If the elevator fails, it will automatically return to the base station to reset. Some elevators will stop at the near level and open the door. It does not matter whether we press the button.
